Stephanie Couch - 2
I grew up swimming in the East Bay swimming club for Pleasant Hill Swim Club and finishing with the Walnut Creek Aquabears.  In college I ran the 5K and 10k as well as swam for Cal State East Bay. I raced in Triathlons all throughout college and through my 20’s.  I raced as an amateur and pro triathlete, and qualified and competed in the Hawaii Ironman at age 25. I joined a masters swim team at age 19 and have swum with a team ever since.  My favorite events are the 200 Fly, 400 IM, 800 Free, 1000 Free and the 1500 Free.  I also compete in open water and race throughout the season in waters such as Lake Berryessa, Donner Lake, Lake Del Valle, Santa Cruz and Richmond’s Keller Cove. I’ve coached for Woodside since 2014 and am now in my 10th year. I have three daughters all of whom graduated from Woodside.

When I’m not coaching for Woodside I teach kids to swim.  I’ve run a backyard swim school since 2006.  My passion is working with kids of all ages and abilities to teach them to believe in themselves and enjoy swimming!  I hope to pass on my love of swimming to the students so that they too can swim for life.

I grew up in San Mateo and started swimming competitively at age 8, which I continued to do through high school (Hillsdale) and college (Miami University, OH). I won 3rd in the 100 fly at CCS my senior year of high school. After starting as a 'walk-on' with my Division 1 Mid-America Conference team, I was able to earn a scholarship for my point scoring contributions. In my four years of swimming D1, we won our conference 3 times. I also achieved 3rd place in the 200 butterfly my senior year of college, just shy of the NCAA/Olympic qualifying time. Today I swim with Menlo Masters and continue to race now and then, such as the Escape from Alcatraz Invitational in 2019 in which I placed 2nd in my age group (no wet suit division).

In my time as a competitive athlete, I have learned a lot about how to manage my performance anxiety and how to enjoy and truly love swimming. I’ve also spent years as a swim instructor as well, so I’m at ease with explaining skills and coaching to improve them. My goal for this team is to coach kids on how to have fun with high school swimming and share my love of the sport with the WHS student athletes!

I currently am a mom of 3 children (with one WHS student) and reside in Redwood City and work as an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist when not on the pool deck.
